Call for Submissions Open

The Student Reader invites high school students to submit writing arising from close engagement with literature.

You might explore a passage in a novel that puzzles you, develop an interpretation of a poem, or examine how your understanding of a work has changed after reading a critical text.

We welcome different approaches and forms, including those beyond the conventional literary essay. We care about close attention to the text, specificity, and thinking that other readers can follow, question, and build upon. What approach best captures your engagement with literature?
